Every now and then you come across a situation where you need to use kit in a way that it is not designed to be. Shooting a triathlete in the middle of a lake is not somewhere that Flashes are designed to be used in. And thus I put together my waterproof flash housing.
Ok ok So its not going to cope with a 1000ft free dive to the bottom of the briney blue, but it should save me buying a new flash if it gets nocked into the lake.
The Design is pretty simple its a state of the art perspex containment unit (tupperware box from tescos), I worked out the best way to mount the flash drilled a hole in the bottom. The spigot has a o-ring in and outside of the box which keeps it surprisingly water tight (tested to bath depth, about 8 inches). Pretty simple really and did the job nicely. If i was to do it again, I would buy a bigger box so that the hinge didn’t get in the way, not that its that much of a issue
